Farmhouse. Probably C16, faced in brick late C17, roof raised and house enlarged one bay south early C19, partly
refenestrated mid C20. Red brick Flemish bond probably over rubble, chamfered plinth, rendered south gable end, slate
roof, overhanging eaves, boxed soffit on facade, roughcast stacks left gable end, between first and second bays left
marking end of original building and set in from gable end right, originally external before building refaced. Plan:
possibly open hall originally, now 3 cell and cross passage. Two storeys, 2:1:1 bays, 4 upper courses of brick work
added when roof raised, similarly upper courses of full height gabled porch and apex of gabled on right return, dog
tooth moulded string course set just below lintel level flanking porch and similar string course running across porch
marking extent of original building, butt joint with addition left, left window in addition, 3-light left of porch, C20
4-light in gable end, C20 window to right, ground floor 16-pane sash window left, 4-light under semi-circular headed
voussoirs with brick infill of indeterminate date flanking porch, moulded square headed Ham stone door case, square
headed moulded surround to inner door, 6-panel with inserted lights, panelled dado and built in seats to porch, ogee
headed cut brick lancet on returns. Interior not seen, could well contain features of interest. An unusual building in
that it reveals so explicitly its later development on the facade; but an internal inspection is necessary to determine
its origins.
