Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C16 with C18 and mid-to late C19
alterations and additions; 1980 addition. Roughly coursed and uncoursed
sandstone rubble, partly rendered, with timber framed core; plain tile
roof. One barn with 2-bay projecting gabled cross-wing to left. 2
storeys. Integral brick end stack to right, large external lateral
stack to left with C19 brick top, and external stone and brick end
stack at rear. C19 gabled eaves dormer to right with 2-light wooden
casement; ground-floor 3-light wooden casement to right (formerly door -
see straight joints beneath), and cross-wing with 2-light metal attic
casement and ground-floor 3-light wooden-framed metal casement, both
with segmental brick relieving arches; half-glazed boarded door in
angle of cross-wing with late C20 lean-to store and timber-framed glazed
porch. Right-hand return front with straight joint between C16 masonry
of stack and C19 masonry replacing former timber frame. C20 two-storey
stone addition set back to right. C19 gabled wing at rear. Interior:
left-hand ground-floor room with chamfered spine beam, supported
by chamfered and stopped post at one end; large open fireplace with
chamfered stone reveals and former ceiling beam inserted as lintel
in C20; small square wooden wall cupboard to left with H-hinges; cross-
wing has square-panelled timber framed cross-walls; ground-floor front
room of cross-wing has been remodelled in the C18 with new plastered
ceiling beam inserted transversely (see mortices for former spine beams);
C18 door with raised and fielded panels and C18 panelled doors with
H-hinges flanking C20 fireplace; old winder staircase in cross-wing.
Despite the rebuilding of most of the external walls in the C19 this
house still retains much timber framing and other earlier features
internally.
