Barn with attached cart shelter and granary. Barn. Late C17 with right
bay (cowhouse or stable) added in late C18 or early C19. Weatherboarded
timber frame on rubblestone plinth; uncoursed limestone rubble to left
gable end and to right bay with yellow and red brick dressings;
corrugated-iron roof. Doorways to left, right and centre, right with
segmental-headed stable door. Eaves hatches immediately to right of left door
and immediately above fixed-light window to right of centre door with
another directly to right. Segmental-headed window to right of right
doorway. Cart shelter/granary: attached to left gable end. Late C18
or early C19. Timber-framed with red brick infill; graded slate roof.
2-bay cart-shelter with granary above. Framing: vertical posts-with
light horizontal members and long straight tension brace to right. Fixed-
light window to centre. Uncoursed limestone rubble lean-to adjoining
has external lateral stone steps which give access to timber projection
to left of granary, having plank doors to left and front, latter with
pointed strap hinges. INTERIOR. Framing visible to barn: rectangular
panels, two from cill to wall-plate. Double-purlin roof in four bays with
rubblestone and principal rafters to gable ends and collar and tie beam
truss with V-struts from collar to original right gable end; other two have
long raking struts from tie beams to principal rafters. Straight tension
braces from wall posts to tie beams and from wall posts to low weatherboarded
partitions. Inserted loft to two right end bays.
