Circa 1700 rear range with parallel early C18 front range. Double depth
house with M shaped gables. 2 storeys and attics throughout. Timber-
framed and plastered. Areas of panelled chevron pargetting survive under
lean-to brick and slate roof scullery on N flank. S gable weatherboarded
with drip boards on brackets at each floor level. Old red tile roof and
red brick gable chimneys internal at back, external at front half.
Earlier rear half has a central stair with 1 room on each side on each of
3 floors. Early C19 from Gd floor to 1st floor, but C18 up to attics with
classical turned balusters, moulded oak handrail and newels. 5 window
plastered front facing E. Symmetrical with flush sash windows with moulded
architraves and 6/6 panes. No dormers in roof. Fine early C18 central
door. 6 panel;raised and fielded panels in shouldered ovolo moulded
architrave flanked by panelled pilasters supporting bold acanthus carved
consoles and triangular open pediment over 3 light fanlight. Trefoil head
with ogee top to larger central,light. Crow stop brick gable to lean-to
on N flank. Rear elevation (W) has 2 hipped tiled dormers with 2 light
mullioned window and leaded glazing. 2 light mullioned and transomed oak
window to 1st floor (bathroom) with iron opening light. Modern windows to
Gd floor. Interior has cased cross beams over the centre of the rooms in
the earlier rear part, and moulded plank doors on old iron strap hinges
in that part. The early C18 front half has cased cross beams not in line
with those of the rear part, 2 panel doors with H hinges to 1st floor and
fine moulded 2 panel doors with bolection mouldings and raised and fielded
panels to living room and dining room. A good period farmhouse.
