Farmhouse. Probably late C16 with mid-C18 and early to mid-C19 alterations
and additions. Timber framed, refaced and partly rebuilt in coursed lime-
stone rubble; slate roofs. 'Hall' and cross wing plan with baffle entry;
aligned north-west/south-east. 2 storeys and attic. Large rendered stone
and brick ridge stack axial with entrance to right and integral stone end stack
at rear of right-hand cross-wing. 4-window front with large gables over
ends; mid-to-late C19 and C20 wooden 2- and 3-light cross casements;
2-storeyed gabled porch to right of centre with pair of half-glazed doors
and porch consisting of attenuated unfluted Doric columns supporting partial
entablature. Datestone "TBS/1749" in gable of right-hand cross-wing.
Cross-wing extends to rear with evidence of timber frame post in north-
west corner close to chimney stack; single storey kitchen wing with central
ridge stack forms cross-wing rear extension to north-west. Interior:
collar and tie-beam roof trusses with queen struts; 'hall' has high
chamfered beams with stops, and early C19 kitchen-range style fireplace
with segmental arch and high shelf; steps up to cross-wing which contains
in ground floor north room a good mid-C18 fireplace with bolection moulded
surround and pulvinated frieze, also a good display cupboard with shell
niche and shaped shelves; early C19 staircase with columnular newel and
stick balusters; C18 panelled doors.
