House, latterly divided, now one house. C17, considerably altered
mid-C19 and mid-C20. Timber frame largely re-built in brick, thatch
and plain tile roofs. Original plan a hall of 3 framed bays with
single-bay cross-wing to rear; prominent C20 additions to right.
One storey and attic; framing: largely replaced by or clad in C19
painted brick but re-used cruck blade and fragmentary panelling
visible to right gable end, wall post with short straight tension
brace partly exposed to centre and further wall post to left gable
end; irregular fenestration, C20 casements with late C19 segmental
heads, 3 to thatch-roofed part (2 to left and one to right of gabled
brick porch) and 2 to tiled-roofed part; gabled eaves dormer to
thatch-roofed part and gabled half-dormer to tiled-roofed part, which
also has a dentilled eaves cornice; red brick stack to back wall on
right and truncated stack to left side of cross-wing. Interior:
chamfered spine beam and joists with ogee stops in room to left of
entrance, which also retains inglenook fireplace (although the stack
above has been truncated); Queen-strut roof in 3 bays to former hall
range. C20 additions are not of special architectural interest.
