Gates and lodges to Howsham Hall (qv). Late C18. Sandstone; ashlar.
2 pairs of gate piers flanked by 6-sided lodges in Gothick style. Gateway
flanked by pairs of square-section piers approximately 3 metres in height,
each with moulded cornice and ball finial, each pair holding round-arched
gateway containing ornamental wooden gates. Gate piers connected by wall,
approximately 1.60 metres in height, to lodges, each with round-headed
doorways beneath roll moulded arches supported on fluted capitals, and
square-headed mullion window towards gate piers. Moulded band. Embattled
parapet with rounded battlements.
