House. Dated 1681, with mid - late C18 and late C20 alterations. Coursed
squared gritstone, graduated stone slate roof. Of 2 builds: 2-storey, 2-bay
block to left, with 2-storey, 2-bay addition to right. Quoins. Left block:
probably lobby-entry plan; C20 board door right with quoined chamfered
surround and an oval window above inscribed "GM 1681". Recessed chamfered
windows throughout with returned hoodmoulds to ground floor; ground floor
left - 4-, now 2-light with paired 16-pane sashes; centre - 5-, now 3-light
with a narrow light of 12 panes and paired with 16-pane sashes. First
floor: two 4-, now 2-light paired 16-pane sashes. Right block: C20 garage
doors right, 4-, now 2-light window with paired 9-pane frames to left; first
floor, left - 16-pane sash; centre - 4-, now 2-light window with paired 12-
pane sashes. Moulded kneelers and gable copings, the left kneeler with ball
finial. Large banded ridge stack above door, corniced stack left. Interior
not inspected at resurvey. North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular
Buildings Study Group Report No 826 (1982).
