Early C19. Roughcast. Hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves. Two storeys. Three
bays: 2-centred arched sashes with glazing bars. Door with 2-centred arched fanlight
with glazing bars.
History. The Act for the Ure Navigation was passed in 1767. Cutting of the Ripon
Canal began early in 1770, and it opened in 1773.
As this house is evidently an early C19 cottage orne, it must have either replaced an
earlier lock-keeper's house, or been built from new at this time.
