3 houses, Nos. 1 and 5 now commercial premises. C17 or earlier, N wing
of No. 1 early C18. Timber frame, brick nogged at rear, front cased in
red brick, brick built N wing. Old red tile steep roofs, hipped on N
wing. A long low L-shaped block with N wing extending E facing The Nap.
2-storeys facing W. 6 windows front. 2 to each house. No. 1 at N has, at
1st floor, a recessed sash window with 6/6 panes plastered reveals and
segmental arch on LH (and on N side), and an early C18 3-light leaded
mullioned window with plate casement on fill. Half-glazed door between 2
C19 small shop windows with glazing bars and fascias. No. 3 has 3-light
wooden casement windows on 1st floor and with segmental arch next the 6
panel door (2 flush: 2 moulded: 2 glazed). No. 5 at 1st floor has 2
3-light wooden casements, and a shopfront of 2 shallow bow windows with
glazing bars flanking glazed double doors under a continuous fascia.
Exposed timber framed partition in No. 1 and chamfered axial beams in
each house. Prominent corner site at start of High Street. Included for
group value.
