Church. Tower 1820 by Thomas Anderson, nave and chancel 1882-85 by T.H. &
F. Healey. Coursed rubble, ashlar dressings, graduated stone slate roof.
3-bay nave with south porch, 3-bay chancel and west tower of 3 stages.
Tower: south door in plain surround with keyed round arch, fanlight with
interlaced glazing bars in plain surround to first stage, projecting band
to belfry stage; large pointed belfry windows with wooden louvres and
hoodmoulds, eaves band; battlemented parapet with corner pinnacles. Gabled
south porch has a deeply moulded pointed arch; nave and chancel windows in
perpendicular style with flat heads to nave, pointed to chancel; 5-light
east window. Gable copings with cross finials. Interior: nave roof
carried on 6 collar beam trusses supported by corbels; the chancel ceiling
painted with shields and chevrons. Wide chancel arch. 3 fine mid C20
stained glass windows commemorating the deceased of 2 world wars; one
signed William Morris 1953, all with contemporary detail. Font probably
retooled C13, circular with roll moulding and corner acanthus-type stiff
leaf ornament, standing on 4 chamfered legs.
