Barn 30m north of Fairbourne's Farm House
GV

Barn. C18, incorporating mediaeval timbers. Brick ends and bases in English
bond, with timber boarding on timber frame; half-hipped plain clay tiled roof
with loft doorways in gables. Five-bay aisled plan, with queen-post
double-collar roof trusses having clasped purlins; windbraces to purlins, some
curved; central full-height double doors to both long sides (north and south).
Not all of interior clear for inspection (June 1988) but the two main posts on
the NE side are former moulded main floorbeams, one double and one
single-sided, possibly from an earlier house on the site. Slit vents in gable
walls now blocked. Part of a farmstead of apparently pre-985 AD origins.
