House. Probably late C17 iS origins. Extended early C18 and early C19.
Altered C20. Red brick with some timber frame exposed. Tiled roofs. 2
parallel 3 bay ranges, that to left probably earlier. Double gable
front. 2 storeys. 2 windows to slightly lower and more steeply pitched
left range. 1 window to right. C20 gabled timber entrance porch, just
off centre. 2 and 3 light timber casements, cambered heads. Timber
panels with brick infill to left of entrance and in left gable, struts
to collar clasping purlins. Ridge stack towards front of left range.
Left return all brick: central entrance 2 and 3 light casements with
cambered heads. Ground floor canted bay added to right of entrance.
Right return: ground floor C20 canted bay, 3 light casement with
cambered head towards rear. First floor 3 casements. Large ridge stack
to rear of centre of right block. Left wing extends further back with
extruded stack on rear gable end. Lean-to to rear of right block. 4
light casements to rear. Interior not inspected. Sir Henry Wood lived at
Apple Tree Farm.
