Farmhouse, circa 1700 with alterations in later C18 and C20. Roughly-coursed
tooled sandstone lower walls; upper walls more evenly coursed and herring-bone -
tooled on house, pecked on downhouse. Welsh slate roof to main house, concrete
tiles to downhouse; stone ridge, copings and stacks. Hearth-passage plan.
2-storeys; house 2 bays, downhouse 1 bay, wide proportions. Boarded passage
door with small glazed panel. Inserted central doorway to main house, with
quoins and shouldered lintel, now blocked to right a 3-light C20 casement under
extended lintel with tall keystone; blocked five window at far right. Narrower
casement in quoined surround to left. 2-light casements above. 3-light C20
casement in extended opening in downhouse, and C19 6-pane sash over, under
herring-bone - tooled lintels, the upper lintel keyed. Stepped and banded end
chimneys to house and at right of downhouse. Pent rear extension to downhouse.
Interior: big chamfered bead and chamfered joists in downhouse (kitchen).
Houseplace has quarter-round moulded joists, corniced firebeam, bracked stone
fireplace surround with old cupboard at right, and another big chamfered beam.
Traditional ground plan with dairy behind parlour and stairs behind passage
behind houseplace. Back stairs behind downhouse to isolated room above; plank
door with wooden sneck. Main staircae has non-shaped splat balusters. Beams,
including big ties, visible on upper floor, and a 6-panel wainscot door.
Attached barn to south is not of special interest.
