House
GV II
House. Late C16 or early C17, altered C19 and C20. Timber frame with red
brick nogging. Part roughcast and tilehung. Tiled roofs. L plan: 3 bays
with a 3 bay cross wing to right. All 2 storeys. Entrance in right bay
of main range, later timber porch. C19 and C20 sashes, roughcast. Left
bay has original timber frame with curved braces exposed, re-assembled.
Left gable end has first floor jettied on brackets, exposed queen struts
to collar clasping purlins, curved struts from collar to principals.
Cross wing to right projects slightly. First floor jettied originally,
ground floor underbuilt. First floor tilehung with a 3 light window,
bargeboarded gable. Ridge stack inserted on right bay of main range.
Right return has exposed framing, posts, studs and braces, C19 sashes
and a C19 canted bay. Rear gable end of cross wing has exposed frame
above ground floor, jowled posts. An external C18 stack with an offset,
rebuilt cap. To rear of main range C18 continuous lean-to outshut under
a catslide roof. Interior: original window openings exposed with
mortices for diamond timber mullions, wattle and daub infill, stop
chamfered binding beams, curved braces to clasped purlin roof, wind
braces.
