Stable block, wall and gate piers. Late C18 with mid C19 alterations.
Brick and stone rubble, rendered, with brick, English bond, in left
return. Ashlar dressings. Westmorland slate roof. A rectangular
courtyard approximately 38 by 25 metres, with buildings on 3 sides and
wall with gate piers on fourth (east) side. South facade of north
range: 2 storey, 3 bay central block linked by single storey 2 bay wings
to 2-storey, 2-bay end blocks. Central block: centre bay and corners
break forward. Central, round-arched, opening to courtyard flanked by
blind arches to corners. Glazing bars in some archways. 9- and 12-pane
sashes to ground and first floor windows. First floor band and sill
band. Balusters between the 2 bands to left and right of central bay.
Central Diocletian window with keystone. Moulded eaves cornice and
plain pediment, hipped roof. Wings to left and right have blind, round-
arch arcade and.eaves cornice, a continuation of the central block's
first floor band. Brick chimneys at ridge. End blocks have triangular
pediments with deeply moulded cornice. Left return: 2-storey, 3-bay
gardener's house to right fronts onto enclosed garden (qv). Central
boarded door under rectangular 3-pane fanlight with wedge lintel. All
windows 12-pane sashes in flush wood architraves with splayed lintels.
Brick string course to first floor. Ashlar eaves cornice. Roof hipped
at left. Courtyard: north range has 2-storey centre and end blocks,
with central triangular pediment. West range: single storey with
central 6-panel door under round-headed arch with banded rustication and
shallow triangular pediment over. Most doors of 6 panels, and sashes
with glazing bars. Arches have double keystones of ashlar and ashlar
bands and eaves cornices. The north and west ranges contain stalls,
loose boxes, mangers, etc. The south range, east and west ends are
dwellings. East side wall rendered, ramped and with ashlar coping.
Channelled quoins to lower part of gate piers with moulded capitals on
plinths above.
