Statue of a wild boar and pedestal. Purchased in Florence from Thomas
Paleto on 15 July 1768 for Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle. Marble
statue on sandstone pedestal. 2 steps to rectangular pedestal with moulded
base and panels bearing foliate and floral designs in relief. Moulded
cornice. Statue of wild boar copied from classical original now in Uffizi
Gallery, Florence. Haskell F and Penny N, Taste and the Antique, 1981,
p 161. HBMC, Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in
England, Part 32, North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, Grade I.
