A house built by the architect William White (1857-58) in the manner of the English
Arts and Crafts movement. In this building White explores the use of polychromatic
brickwork by the use of irregular bands of red and yellow bricks and by varying
the bonding, sometimes the bricks are laid on edge. He also achieves considerable
variety in the form of his windows which are casements of varying size and shape
and in the composition of the roof which includes most of the shapes possible
in a tiled roof. The same variety in shape is achieved in the walls by breaking
forward and receding on each front.
