Stables to Old Vicarage
wall and pier
4.7.1960

GV II

Stables, coach house. C16 with substantial late C19 rebuilding. Coursed
squared limestone ground floor and jettied braced timber framing above,
stone slate roof. Small cross-gabled building approached through courtyard
adjoining the Old Vicarage (q.v.). To street gable, two storeys, 1-windowed,
2-light casement with fretwork grille under castellated beam, over 4-light
blind casement with king mullion and with stopped drip, the ground floor
wall continues left c. 2.5 m as a boundary wall with plain capping to square
pier. On return wall, in courtyard, 2 garage doors under small loading
door and a 2-light C19 casement. The walling at firstfloor appears to be
a latt and plaster fill. Interior not seen. This seems to be a major C19
restructuring on the base of an older building.
