WITHERIDGE NEWHOUSE HILL
SS 81 NW
5/85 Newhouse Farmhouse
-
GV II
Farmhouse. Probably C17, C19 refenestration and reroofings, some internal
rearrangement. Rubble core, roughcast and whitewashed, wide eaves, slate roof with
gabled ends, tall C19 shafts to brick stacks.
Plan and development: single room depth, main entrance into a lobby to left; this
lobby opposite a back-to-back chimney which heats probably a kitchen to the left and
a hall to the right, inner room to the extreme right, heated by a gable-end stack;
some C19 remodelling.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 5 bays, 2 and 3-light C19 casements with small
panes and close-set glazing bars. Door opening to the third bay from the left,
early C19 6-panelled door, top 2 panels cut away and glazed, small slated pentice.
Interior: not able to be fully inspected at time of survey, but good early C19
joinery seen, cupboard to hall.
