Attached house. Late C16 origin, altered in C18 and C19. Walls originally
of ironstone rubble, part refaced in brick in C18 and raised in brick in C19.
Slate roof. Brick end and central stacks - the central stack with recessed
panels. 2 storeys. 3-room and cross-passage plan - possibly originally a
long-house. Panelled door in early C18 moulded brick surround with entablature.
Ground floor has 3 ovolo-mullioned timber windows with casements (one of
these a C20 copy). First floor has 4 casement windows with glazing bars.
Lower extension at east end, of brick, with slate roof. C18 2-storeyed rear
wing of brick, with slate roof. Internally, the parlour - at west end - has an
original open fireplace with moulded stone j ambs and timber lintol. Also
considerable remains of wall paintings of c 1600 - biblical texts in panels
with strapwork borders. Hall has simpler open fireplace. Cast iron pump at
rear of house. RCHM Monument 6. Graded II* for wall paintings.
