5/48 Model Farmhouse

House, now used partly as agricultural store. 1786 by Samuel Wyatt. Gault brick
with hipped slate roof. Two storeys. Sash windows with glazing bars. Principal
ground floor windows in segmental-headed recessed openings. Many window openings
now blocked. Central projecting porch on S facade with pierced and moulded brick
balustrade with corner ball finials. Pedimented brick door surround with rusticated
pilasters and semi-circular arched door opening with keystone. Fanlight with radiating
glazing bars. Plain stone band at first floor cill level. Flat rubbed brick arches
over first floor openings. Plain brick parapet on coved and moulded eaves cornice.
Two storey canted bay on E side. Large opening on N side with pediment supported
on square Doric pilasters.
Lower T-shaped wing on W side: gault brick with hipped slate roofs. Plain brick
string, moulded brick eaves. Sashes with glazing bars. Two chimney stacks on
ridge line. Small courtyard to W enclosed by one storey service buildings.
The E block was originally built as "The New Inn" to accommodate guests visiting
Holkham Park for the sheep-shearings.
