SO 8803-8903 CHALFORD BUSSAGE VILLAGE

10/12 St Michael's Garth including
gates and gatepiers

II

Detached house with gateway. c1850, probably by Henry Hook,
builder of Eastcombe. Ashlar limestone; rebuilt chimneys; stone
slate roof. Two-storey with attic; L-plan Gothic revival style.
Main range runs east to west with 3 west-facing 2-light pointed
arched upper floor windows. One 2-light to ground floor with
triangular bay window to right, also with pointed arched lights,
coped top with string course stepping and becoming hood over gothic
'Venetian' ground floor casement. This replaced at north end with
square late C19 bay window. Two-light to each gable end with
carved ridge finials. Central ridge-mounted chimney. Wing on east
side has south-facing pointed arched doorway with timber porch;
further gothic 'Venetian' window to right with 2-light casement
above; single pointed light over doorway. Plain 2-light in
extension to right.
Interior not inspected. Gothic gatepiers have pointed recessed and
cross-roll tops with ball finials. Contemporary decorative wrought
iron gates.
