TL 72 NE STISTED

1/253 Barn of Kentishes Farm,
50 metres east of
Kentishes Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Circa 1600. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with corrugated
asbestos. 4 bays aligned NW-SE, with aisle to NE only, and midstrey to SW. C20
shelter shed in S angle, forming catslide with main roof. Roof of barn hipped
at both ends, midstrey gabled. Jowled arcade-posts and wallposts. Straight
braces to arcade-plate, slightly curved braces to straight tiebeams. Heavy
studding and girts, all tenoned and pegged. Face-halved and bladed scarfs in
arcade-plate and wallplates. Clasped purlin roof with inserted raking struts.
Midstrey original, with jowled posts, but roof raised approximately 0.60 metre,
with later rafters and ridge. C20 great doors. Small doors at aisle end of
threshing bay, blocked by adjacent C20 farm building. SE wall and part of SW
wall lined with galvanised steel sheet for grain storage.
