Timber-framed and plastered house built circa 1600. Partly surrounded by a
moat. The house is said to have been built by Sir John James in a park of
300 acres. It was later converted into a farmhouse. Built on an H shaped
plan with jettied gables on the east and west ends of the south front. At
the rear there is a gabled staircase wing. Two storeys and attics. Leaded
casements. Roof tiled, with an original central chimney stack with cruciform
shafts set diagonally on a square base. (RCHM 4).
