C18 rebuilding of medieval com market and toll house. The ground floor retains a
chamfered timber post with carved stops on a stone base supporting a large chamfered
beam. A second stone base is re-used as a mounting block near the main doorway. The
courtroom on the first floor has a segmental barrel-vaulted ceiling. A classical
building with rendered brick walls with quoins at the angles and a a pantiled roof
with a parapetted gable ends. Two storeys. East front has round arched first floor
sash with rusticated surround in the gable and 2 ground floor sashes, all with glazing
bars. Two string courses. Additional bay on right (North) has round-arched
rusticated doorway with semi-circular fanlight over flat hood on shaped brackets, and
with flush-panelled door. The south side: 4 bays on 2 storeys, sashes with glazing
bars. Left hand ground floor windows replaced by 5 small modern windows.
