Description

KENTON KENTON
SX 98 SE

6/242 Trinity Cottage, the Corner Shop
- and house adjoining Trinity Cottage
at the north west

GV II

Row of 2 houses and a shop, all adjoining. C18 or earlier. Whitewashed and
rendered, probably cob and stone; red pantile roof, hipped at ends; 2 axial stacks.
Plan: Single depth range facing Church Street, with a courtyard to the rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2:2:2 window front. The left hand house has a
C20 half-glazed front door to the right, one first floor and one ground floor C19 6-
pane sash. Trinity Cottage (in the centre) has a plank front door in the centre with
a flat porch hood on Gothic brackets with a pair of 2-light C19 casements to the left
of the door and two 4-pane C19 sashes to the first floor. The corner shop,to the
right, hasa recessed front door with a pretty early C19 semi-circular fanlight and a
flat porch hood on moulded brackets. The form of the 30-pane bowed shop window to
the left is probably early C19 but it has been re-glazed; small C20 window to right
of door. The 2 first floor windows have been replaced with late C20 plastic sash
windows.
Interior: Trinity Cottage inspected. Largely modernized; some evidence of a former
cross pasage.
In spite of the C20 alterations to the Corner Shop this row is in an extremely
important position in the centre of Kenton.
