(north side)

9/96 No. 33 (in Swan Yard)

GV II

House. Late C16, altered in C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red plain tiles. 2 bays facing NE, extended to right and left, with 2
C19 stacks in front of ridge. 2 storeys. 4-window range of C20 casements. One
C20 glazed door, one C20 door made up of old boards, and one C20 plain door to
right. C20 ornamental pargetting. The rear wallplate has an edge-halved and
bridled scarf, 2 blocked unglazed windows, one with a diamond mortice and one
with a groove for sliding shutter. Heavy studding with primary straight
bracing. C20 grates. Clasped purlin roof, the rafters having oblique trenches
and gauging holes from a former use with a crownpost roof. The left extension
is C19 and C20, reported to be on the site of a former smithy. The right bay,
altnough now roofed in line with the others, retains some early structure in the
right wall, and some evidence of a jetty at the front, indicating that it has
been rebuilt from a former 2-bay crosswing.
