Farmhouse, now two dwellings, late C18 and early C19; colourwashed brick,
black glazed pantiles. T plan, 2 storeys. Principal range to south: The
Farmhouse probably c.1829 for Richard Hanbury Gurney; 3 bays, modillion
cornice, low gable parapets, end internal stacks of gault brick; bays 1 and
3 with recessed sashes, glazing bars and pins for shutters, openings to ground
floor with gauged brick flat arches and tripartite sashes. 2 storeyed flat
roofed canted porch to centre: ground floor with 3 unglazed open semicircular
headed arches, that to centre with low wrought iron gate with plain bars,
approached by 3 stone steps having either side a wreathed hand rail with
stick balusters in wrought iron; first floor with 3 continuous sashes with
glazing bars, that to central cant with 4 x 4 panes. 6 panelled door with
upper 4 panels glazed, rectangular light above with decorative glazing bars.
Interior: open string staircase with mahogany hand rail and stick balusters.
No. 8 North House: attached rear range. Late C18. Facade to east: 5 bays,
end internal stacks and between bays 3 and 4; flush sashes with glazing bars,
gauged brick cambered heads; ground floor openings to bays 1 and 3 and between
bays 4 and 5 only, of 4 x 4 panes, opening to bay 2 removed. First floor
sashes 3 x 4 panes wide to bays 1-3 and of 3 x 3 panes to bays 4 and 5.
Large classical C18 doorway to bay 4 with pilasters fluted in 3 tiers,
entablature with foliage decoration to metopae and geometric decoration to
modillion soffits. The farm was originally the Hall Farm of Cringleford
Hall q.v. 2/8 c.450m to the east-north-east.
