Gateway, c1824, by W.J. Donthorne, carstone with Sandringham sandstone
dressings; Gothick style; irregular plan, central archway, single storey
bay to south, 3-storeyed octagonal turret to north. East facade to road:
4-centred limestone arch with ffolkes arms in stone above. Embattled stepped
gable parapet with string course over arch, open work gates to arch in wood
and iron. South bay with blocked 2-light mullioned Gothick window, embattled
parapet and string course; clasping octagonal buttresses with embattled
parapets to south angles in Sandringham sandstone. 3 storeyed octagonal
tower to right of arch with embattled parapet having string course with
grotesques, 2-light Gothick windows to south-east and north-east of ground
floor, and to east face of 1st and 2nd floor. Rear: archway as to east facade
without shield, plain parapet to south bay and to projection in front of
north tower. Double lights to south and north. Interior: ruinous at time
of survey, north tower floorless, fireplace to east wall of ground floor,
doors with Gothick panels; copper to fireplace of south room. Attached wall
to north of small carstone with brick coping. Attached road bridge over
the Babingley river in carstone with brick coping, canted splays, stepped
embattled parapets, central limestone plaque on east parapet showing boundary
between Flitcham Parish and Hillington Parish, limestone shield on west
parapet with ffolkes fleur de lys; low arches in brick.
