of Hooks House

Barn and byres in single long range. C18-early C19, 4 builds. Sandstone with
varied tooling, mostly herringbone; pantiled roofs. Walls raised by 2 courses.
One storey near house, 1½ storeys further away. 3 boarded doors and 3 boarded
boarding doors. 1 added red brick raking dormer. Third section from house is
oldest part and has heavy chamfered door lintel and pattern of vent slits.
Interior: in oldest part one very heavy collar and tie-beam truss resting on 2
stone piers which are below the level of the heightened walls and their wall
plate. Extra spur pieces have been added to the backs of these principals to
push out the 2 levels of purlins and raise them to the later eaves height.
