Grotto Cottage

Cottage and attached grotto. Early C19 built for Nightingale family. Rustic
flint nodules, and knapped flint with brick dressings, slate roof. 1 1/2 storey,
2 bay fairly standard early C19 cottage with grotto in front of R bay, with
crenellated dormer over on roof of cottage. Entrance in end. L bay has
2-light pointed casement. In front of R bay end of grotto has 3 order pointed
arch of flint nodules and recessed inside 3-light Gothic window. Above barge
boards to low pitched roof. Behind crenellated dormer has small 2-light pointed
stone window. Main building has central ridge stack.
