House. C14/15, extended in C16 and C17. Timber framed, plastered with exposed
framing on front elevation, roofed with red clay tiles. 2 bays facing S, C14,
with C16 external chimney stack at right end. 2-bay extension to right, with
additional stack back to back with the first, early C17. Rear extension from
original block with external chimney stack at end, late C16, and extension
beyond. 2 storeys. 5 C20 casements on ground floor, 4 on first floor. The
original 2 bays are jettied, with exposed joists and C20 reproduction brackets.
Grouped diagonal shafts on main stack. Entrance in left return wall, in C20
porch with re-used medieval and reproduction features. The interior of the
original building has high axial beams with exposed plain joists of horizontal
section, all of heavy construction, and a rear doorway with 4-centred arched
head. On the first floor there are original rebated boards, a rear doorway with
3-centred arched head, and chamfered mantel beam with lamb's tongue stops. The
right extension has a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops and plain
joists of horizontal section, a first floor hearth with depressed brick arch,
and a clasped purlin roof with straight wind-bracing. The ground floor of the
rear extension has C18 pine panelling. RCHM 2.
