Country house. C17 with C18 and late C19 alterations and additions.
Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, slate roof
having stone coped gables with pyramidal finials and 2 stone ridge
stacks on main north front. L-plan. 2 storey 5 bay front with garrets;
advanced central gabled entry bay of 3 storeys with finial. Recessed
panelled door in moulded surround with semicircular head having an
emphasised keystone; above is a moulded cornice. On the upper floors
are single 2 light casement windows with cornices. To the left of the
entry bay is a 6 light mullioned window, the central pair of lights
being united under a semicircular head to form wider casements. Beyond
is a 3 light mullioned window. To the right is a further 6 light mullioned
window with paired central lights with beyond again, a 4 light mullioned window
On the first floor are three 4-light mullioned windows with, to the left,
a single 3 light similar window. Most of these
windows are late C19, but their style and positions probably reflect the
C17 arrangement. The outer wall of the left hand range has an external
stack which is probably early C17, and at the rear at the main range is
a central doorway, the left hand jamb of which is moulded, C17, and in
situ. Inside, there is a C17 staircase with spiral balusters and newel
knobs as well as a stone fireplace with a moulded 4 centred arch.
