Farmhouse with cottage attached. Possibly late C16, but much altered and enlarged.
Roughcast cob on stone footings; gabled-end slate roof. Probably formerly a 3-
room, cross-passage plan house, the higher end to the left of the passage (n.b. as
at present approached; the rear faces south-south-west and may well have been the
front originally); the service end was extended, perhaps in the C17, the extension
now forming Ebford Manor Cottage which is itself attached to the rear wing of
Ebford Manor (q.v.). C20 extension to left-hand end, slightly recessed. Hall
heated by rear lateral (formerly external) stack; inner room unheated; service end
heated by a former end (now axial stack); cottage heated by internal front lateral
stack, now engulfed by an extension under a catslide roof; all stacks with brick
shafts. 2 storeys.
Front: irregular 7 window range; upper floor window (one blocked) include early C19
horizontal 3 sliding sashes (one of 2-lights, 2 of 3-) and one C19 3-light
casement; the others are C20. 4 casement windows to ground floor.
Rear: the stack with crow-stepped off-sets; C19 and C20 casement windows.
Interior: Stairs now occupy entrance hall (C20); newel stairs to rear of service
end stack; roughly-chamfered cross beams to hall and service end. The cottage has 2
chamfered cross beams; fireplace with very big stone jambs. Roof trusses partially
visible in 1st floor rooms, with large straight principals. On the end wall of the
1st floor are 2 recently-exposed primitive paintings (possibly C18), one showing a
dog, the other a magpie and cock playing cards.
