Cottage, c.1500, extended in C18 and C20. Timber framed, plastered with frame
exposed, roof thatched. 2 bays aligned approx. E-W, aspect S, with external
chimney stack, C17, at E end. N extension at E end, C18, forming an L-plan.
Lean-to extension in NW angle, roofed with handmade red clay pantiles.
Weatherboarded shed to SE, roofed with red clay pantiles and Roman tiles.
Single storey with attics. S elevation, plain boarded door, 2 C19 casement
windows, one casement window in swept dormer roofed with red clay Roman tiles,
C20. Roof half-hipped at W end only. Jowled posts. Curved tension bracing in
end wall and arched bracing in side walls, trenched outside studs. Edge-halved
and bridled scarfs in wallplates. Roof of crownpost construction, plastered to
soffits of collars, central crownpost without braces. Originally the E bay was
open to the roof. The W bay may have had a lodged floor, but both the present
floors are C17 insertions, consisting of axial beams chamfered and stopped, with
exposed joists supported on clamps. In N extension unjowled posts, clasped
purlin roof. The walls were weatherboarded until the early C20.
