2 dwellings, formerly a single farmhouse (Underhill farmhouse). Late C16 with later
alterations. Roughcast cob on stone footings; gabled-end thatched roof, the rear
wing half-hipped. Originally a 3-room, through-passage plan house, the service-end
to the right of the passage, with a rear parlour wing. A brick extension was added
to the higher end in the late C19. Service end heated by an external end stack;
hall heated by an external front lateral stack, with 2 set offs to each side, and a
big front slated set off; the inner room was originally unheated and the end stack
is probably level with the brick extension. Brick shafts. 2 storeys.
Front: 4-window range; 2-light casement windows to first floor, under shallow
eyebrow eaves; 2-light casement window to each of the 3 ground floor rooms. C19
and C20 casement windows to brick extension.
Interior: parlour wing with 3 chamfered axial ceiling beams with cyma reverse
mouldings and run-out stops. Screens might survive beneath present internal
partitions. Upper crucks to wing and main range (roof space not examined).
