Wrongly shown on OS map as Houghton's Farm. House, c.1600, altered in C18 and
C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays
aligned approx. N-S, with axial chimney stack in second bay from S end,
originally forming a lobby-entrance to E, now blocked. One-bay extension to N,
C18, with external chimney stack on gable. Single-storey extension to rear of
main stack, and rear porch in SE angle, both C20. 2 storeys and attics. W
elevation, glazed door at front of tiled gabled porch, 2 casement windows on
ground floor and 4 on first floor, all C20. The interior has jowled posts, some
exposed close studding, plain-chamfered axial beams in bays 1 and 3 from S end,
with lamb's tongue stops in bay 3 only. In both bays, plain-chamfered joists of
horizontal section with lamb's tongue stops. In original N bay, plain joists of
horizontal section arranged longitudinally. 2 large wood-burning hearths. On
first floor at original N end, curved tension bracing trenched inside studs.
Inserted ceilings above first floor, early C17. In attic, floorboards of same
date, and an unglazed window in each gable.
