Police station, late C19th. Snecked sandstone rubble with slate roof. 2
storeys, 3 bays. Windows rebated and chamfered, those on the ground floor
with straight drip moulds, with a separate drip course above. The
left-hand bay has a single-storey canted bay window with 2 lights at the
front, a light on each canted side, and flanking lights on the main wall
of the building. The 2nd bay has a 4-light mullioned window. On the 1st
floor the 1st and 2nd bays have 6-light mullioned and transomed windows.
The 3rd bay projects slightly under a hipped roof and has mullioned
windows with round heads to the lights: 3 on the ground floor and 4 above.
To the right is a door with a Tudor-arched head within a stone doorcase
which has a pediment above 4 blank panels. At the left of the facade is a
lower part set back from the front wall. In the angle between it and the
gable wall is a single-storey porch which has a Tudor-arched doorway with
'POLICE' inscribed on the lintel. Chimney on left-hand gable and to left
of 3rd bay. The right-hand return wall has 2 1st floor mullioned windows
with round-headed lights, under a hipped roof.
