Description

GRESSINGHAM ESKRIGGE
SD 56 NE

7/93 Barn south of Eskrigge House

GV II

Barn, probably early C19th. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. North wall
has wide entrance with plain reveals, covered by external sliding door. To
the right is a door with plain reveals. The east gable wall has a concrete
lean-to addition, which partly covers the quoins at its southern corner.
The corner of one of these quoins is carved with a 'Celtic' head. Further
symbolic carving is visible inside the addition, on part of the same
stone. The quoin below has a larger cruder carved head, probably an
imitation of the first.
