Gatehouse, c.1600. Sandstone ashlar. Single segmental arch, chamfered in 2
orders. On west side flanked by paired Doric columns on decorated pedestals,
supporting an entablature. Above the blocking course are 3 finials of square
section, with cushion bases. At the left is a C19th extension of 2 storeys
and one bay providing living accommodation and having windows with plain stone
surrounds and glazing bars. On the east side there is a gable with coping
above the arch and a diagonal buttress to its left. To the right the wall is
blank, with original masonry to the ground floor of the living accommodation,
extended upwards in the C19th. Inside, between the arches, the ceiling is of
stone and vaulted with carved bosses.
