Barn with integral carthouse. Dated 1692 on porch; altered slightly.
Squared sandstone with small quoins, stone slate roof with ball finials on
kneelers and apex of copings. Very large rectangular plan with 7-bay barn
in centre and west end, carthouse at east end, opposed porches in centre.
Chamfered plinth, slit breathers; south front has wide 3-bay full-height
gabled porch with segmental-headed outer and inner arches, the outer with
moulded head to recessed voussoirs, and above this a square datestone
lettered in relief C:H , a hollow-moulded 2-light mullioned window on
1692
each side at this level, and stone coping with kneelers and ball finials;
to the left are a doorway and 3 C19 windows at ground floor, a square
loading door in the centre, and 4 louvred breathers to the loft, and west
gable wall has 3 chamfered shippon doorways under a stepped dripband; to
the right are breathers on 4 levels of the adjoining bay, then the side
wall of the carthouse, which has a segmental-arched wagon door in the gable
wall, two 2-light windows at 1st floor, and a flight of stone steps
rounding the rear corner to a loft door in the rear wall. Rear: small
porch under carried down roof, shouldered round-headed wagon entrance, a
2-light window above; east part covered by added stables, cottage, etc.
Interior: Large collar trusses with angle struts, 4 pairs of purlins.
