Aqueduct, about 100 metres East of Burmsdon Farmhouse
9.09.85
II
Aqueduct carrying the now dry Bude Canal over the River Tamar. 1819-23. By James Green, engineer to the Bude Harbour and Canal Company. Freestone rubble with segmental brick arch. Single arch span aqueduct, parapets dismantled, abutments set into embankment about 150 metres in length. On the north face, upstream, at time of Survey (January 1988) the arch has collapsed, and the facing of the main wall and the eastern abutment are missing. This aqueduct was part of the longest tub-boat canal in England. The River Tamar forms the boundary between Devon and Cornwall at this point.
