Stables to Burrow Hall (q.v.), c.1740. Sandstone rubble with slate roof.
Half-H plan, with parallel wings projecting on west side. 2 storeys. The
east wall has chamfered quoins, an entablature with blank frieze, and a
central gabled projection. The latter has a Venetian opening in front of a
recess containing a garden seat. Above is a window with a cyma-moulded
stone surround breaking through the cornice. Under the gable is a keyed
oculus. On the west side the central recessed wall has gabled projection
which has a tall doorway with plain stone surround, moulded imposts, and a
round head with keystone. Above, breaking through the cornice, is a
lunette opening. The gables of the wings are treated similarly. On each
side of the central gabled section is one bay. On the 1st floor each of
these bays has a 6-pane sash in a cyma-moulded surround. The right-hand
bay has a wide doorway with stone surround. The left-hand bay has its
original doorway, which has a stone surround with moulded imposts, a round
head with keystone and fanlight, and aprojecting hood on brackets. The
walls of the projecting wings which face the courtyard are of 3 bays and
have similar central doorways. The windows have cyma-moulded surrounds.
Those on the 1st floor have 6-pane sashes except for the outer bays, which
have pitching doors with similar surrounds. On the ground floor the
windows are sashed with glazing bars, except for the left-hand bay of the
southern wing, which has a door with stone surround. Inside, the northern
wing retains its original timber stalls and has a ceiling with moulded
cornices.
