Description

SD 53 SW BROUGHTON CHURCH LANE

7/18 Broughton CE Primary School

GV II

School, 1843, altered. Rock-faced sandstone, slate roof with stone parapets
and gable chimneys. Three wide bays. Single storey, in Jacobean style, with
a chamfered plinth, 2 buttresses, a stepped gablet to the middle of each bay
and beneath these stepped triple-light windows which are flanked by vertical
rectangular casements (except the 3rd bay, which is shorter to the right). At
the left end, overlapping the gable, is an entrance porch with Tudor-arched
doorway, a blank rectangular panel above and a crow-stepped gabled parapet
with a final, and there is a matching entrance to the rear of the right gable
end: these are said to be later alterations. Added rear wing in random
rubble, not of special interest.
