Church, 1890, by Austin and Paley; now warehouse. Snecked sandtone, slate
roof. On north-south axis: nave with low aisles, double transepts, base of
intended south-west tower; in Arts and Crafts Perpendicular style. Buttressed
gable to road has set-back upper wall with large 4-light traceried window in
a recessed panel; to 1st bay on east side is a gabled porch with moulded
arched doorway, front wall extended sideways each side to make buttresses, and
circular side-wall window with flamboyant tracery; aisles have flat-headed
2-light windows, nave has 4 large segmental-head 4-light windows with
Perpendicular tracery; twin-gabled transepts have tall 2-light window in each
gable. Base of tower at south-west corner has diagonal buttresses, moulded
arched doorway, a band of blind arcading above this, and a pyramidal roof.
Interior: mostly obscured by present contents, but appears largely unaltered
except where high chancel arch has been damaged by removal of Rood (now in
Church of St. Nicholas, Church Street, Newchurch, q.v.).
