Dated 1868 on plaque. Florentine Renaissance revival style house with adjoining
service wing to north and conservatory to south. Gault brick. Main range has hipped,
slate roof with stone eaves. Cornice of coloured tiles. Two internal stacks. One side
stack on carved stone corbel. Three-storeys. Moulded stone band between floors. Six
bays with two slightly projecting centre bays. Ground and first-floor with ranges of
six hung sashes with central glazing bars in segmental headed arches with narrow stone
key blocks and labels to ground and first-floors. Third-floor has similar, smaller
sashes. Windows to right hand pelmeted. Central portico of two bays. Gault brick with
Ketton stone dressings. Hipped, slate roof with frieze of marble panels and bosses.
Moulded semi-circular headed arches on piers of rectangular section with carved stone
capitals. Pilasters at corners. Stone balustrade. Semi-circular headed doorway of two
moulded orders with moulded label and carved stops. Detached shafts with carved capitals
and bases. Double doors with upper half-glazed with engraved personifications of "Peace"
and "Plenty". Semi-circular headed fanlight. Interior of hall with screen of two bays
with moulded semi-circular headed arches on marble columns with carved foliate capitals
and stone bases. Original floral patterned floor tiles. Main staircase of two flights.
Closed-string. Trefoil heads between turned and carved balusters. Ground and first-
floor rooms have frieze bands and central bosses of applied plaster mouldings. Doors of
six panels with trefoil cusp tracery to upper two. Two-storey servants wing to left
hand. Gault brick. Hipped slate roof with moulded brick eaves cornice. First-floor
range of four hung sashes in flat stone arches. Moulded stone band below sills. Ground-
floor range of six hung sashes in cambered arches with labels and moulded sills.
Interior has back staircase of six flights with moulded rail and two turned balusters to
each tread. Adjoining conservatory to right hand of main range. Wood on brick sill.
Rectangular plan, curved at corners. Hipped roof with lantern and semi-circular headed
pediment to garden entry. Wrought iron finials to eaves cornice. Each bay of three
unequal glazed lights with glazing bars to upper two. Glazed double doors to terrace.
Stone urns and coping to retaining wall.
