House. Probably C16 and C17 and remodelled in C19. Stuccoed stone rubble
and cob slate roof gabled at right-hand end, and hipped at left end. 3 old
axial and gable end stacks, large central axial stack and tapered right-hand
gable end stack with stone weathering.
Plan and development: 3-room plan, the lower end to the left, all 3 rooms
heated from stacks on the right side the left-hand room and centre room with
axial stacks, the right-hand room has a gable end stack. The opposing
doorways might be evidence for a through passage on the left side of the
centre room. The lower left room is deeper in plan than the centre room
which in turn is deeper than the right-hand room. There is a newel stair in
the front right-hand corner of the right room and the left stack has an
oven. There is evidence that the eaves of at least the centre of the range
has been raised. The range was formerly divided into 3 cottages but it was
originally a 3 room plan house as a 2-room plan house extended later.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4/5 window range C20 2 and 3-light
casements and small 1-light stair window to right. Doorway to left of
centre with circa C19 (altered C20) stone rubble park with lean-to slate
roof and C20 plank door.
At the rear the right-hand (lower) and projects and the left-hand end is set
back slightly. The eaves at the centre seem to have been raised. C20
casements. 2 small single storey outshuts at centre, one C19 and the other
is C20.
Interior: Ground floor left-hand room has closely spaced chamfered waney
axial beams and blocked fireplace with stopped chamfered timber lintel one
end on corbel. Centre room has later exposed joists and no main beam and
firplace with partly concealed timber lintel and at back of room a C20
staircase. The right-hand room has closely spaced chamfered cross-beams of
light scantling and stone rubble fireplace probably reduced in size. To
right of fireplace a stone newel staircase. The right-hand bed-chamber has
blocked fireplace with timber lintel and left-hand bed-chamber has blocked
fireplace with plastered over cambered lintel on corbel at one end. Only
the lower end section of the roof was inspected where there is a C19 king-
port truss. The feet of straight principals are exposed in the centre and
right bed-chamber.
