Farmhouse. Probably C17 or earlier, refurbished in late C19. Plastered cob on
rubble footings; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof,
corrugated asbestos and slate to outshots.
Originally a 3-room-and-through-passage plan house facing east with former inner
room at left (south) uphill end. Fourth room added to right end. Rear passage now
blocked by secondary outshots across whole of rear and rising to 2 storeys behind
hall and passage. End stack to former inner room, rear lateral stack to hall and
axial (originally end) stack to former service room. A C20 stack serving outshot
to rear of service room. 2 storeys.
Irregular 5-window front with a 6th ground floor window, all late C19 casements
with glazing bars. Contemporary 4-panel front door in centre with overlight and
monopitch and slate-roofed hood. A series of pigeon holes under the eaves over the
front door have been blocked. Roof is gable-ended.
Interior shows late C19 and C20 fittings and finish throughout but the C17 plan
survives intact suggesting that older features survive behind C19 plaster.
Ceilings have been lowered hiding beams and fireplaces are blocked by C19 and C20
grates. Roof is not accessible although the feet of some roof trusses show and
suggest that C17 roof of A-frame trusses survive.
