Row of cottages of several building periods. Late C17, early and later C18
and early C19. Mostly timber-framed on brick plinth, plaster rendered, but
possibly some clay bat, particularly in the early C19 parts. Roofs are
thatched, longstraw and reed, plain tiles and buff and red pantiles. Single
range plan. No. 8 and No. 10 is late C17 lobby-entry and three bay plan
cottage, subdivided and extended by one bay to the left hand in late C18.
The late C17 cottage is one storey and attic. Thatched and pantiled to rear
pitch with original square, red brick stack with blank recessed panel at the
base. Three dormers, one gabled, and fenestration of small pane casements
and horizontal sliding sashes, C20, and including a shop window. Two
doorways, one to the lobby entry and the other, to No. 10, dating from the
time of the subdivision. In the late C18 the bay to the left hand was
added. Timber-framed, plaster rendered and tiled, mansard roof. Grey brick
stack, square, is contemporary with this addition. Two storeys. One
horizontal sliding sash to each storey. Nos. 4 and 6, originally one
dwelling, now two. Late C18. Also timber-framed, plaster rendered and reed
thatched. Grey brick ridge stack. Lobby entry and three bay plan. One
storey and attic. Three dormers in moulded architraves. Similar
fenestration of C20 small pane sliding sashes and casments. Two doorways,
including one to the lobby entry. No. 2 is a C19 extension. Timber-fronted
or possibly clay bat, on brick plinth, plaster rendered and pantiled. C19
grey brick stack of single flue. One storey and attic. Two dormers. Three
horizontal sliding sashes and panelled door. Wrights Row is now owned by the
Cambridgeshire Cottage Improvement Society.
